The story behind Alter/native
WORKER CO-OPERATIVE

ALTER/NATIVE
Alter/Native is an ethical brand owned by Suma, a wholefood collective founded in 1977 by a group of liberally-minded people who believed there was a better way, and actively set out to create it. From day one Suma was set up as a co-operative of ordinary people built on integrity and equality.
Doing a little bit of good, and hoping for a little bit of change.
Based in West Yorkshire, Suma is owned and run by nearly 200 people, so there are no bosses or shareholders.
Suma’s employees set the direction of the business and everyone has an equal say in what it does. Everyone is paid the same wage, take equal responsibility, and everyone does a range of jobs each week, from truck driving to cooking to accounts.
Today Suma is one of the largest co-operatives of its kind in Europe, working to improve our society and the environment.
Suma members are often seen around West Yorkshire planting trees with Treesponsibility, a not-for-profit community group based in the Upper Calder Valley, Calderdale. Established in 1998, the group campaign and educate on the need for action on climate change.
Alter/native products make my skin and hair feel great, and the natural ingredients are also kind to the planet at the same time! I love the different scents available in the range, made with essential oil blends

Ordered deodorant, toothbrushes and interdental brushes and they were delivered quickly, in great condition and eco packaging.
Prices were the best I could find and I love that they're a Living Wage employer.
Great products and peace of mind because they're ethically run. Definitely will order again
I couldn't be more pleased with every aspect of my Green Tulip experience. The reusable food storage containers are not only highly functional but gorgeous as well, and the swift, plastic-free packaging was awesome.
Green Tulip are so accommodating. I ordered their Kochi stainless steel food containers which are an ideal size for me as a single person and perfect for freezing. Green Tulip were happy to order in more for me and to let me know when they'd received them. I shall definitely be looking at what else I can order from them. Their delivery times are quick as well, an excellent company.
Hi! I bought these gloves and they died on the 3d day. It’s funny cause the only thing I was doing in them — loading and unloading a dishwasher with the same type of plates. Nothing else. Also my hands smell latex after. Wanted to be green but spent money on nothing:( the service was good though.
Excellent love them x will use again xx
