Curanatura use solid moso bamboo to make their toothbrush holders. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, and is an endlessly renewable resource. It grows naturally without using any pesticides or fertilisers, takes in greenhouse gasses and produces 35% more oxygen than the equivalent trees.
Bamboo toothbrush holders are naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial and Curanatura’s holders are also heat treated which means the surface is ‘carbonised’. This results in the waterproofing of the bamboo and makes it soft to touch and much more durable in the bathroom.
The Company offers a variety of bristle types in their toothbrushes, all of which contain Nylon 4 - a preferred material for toothbrush bristles according to the International Federation of Dental Hygienists. Nylon 4 is BPA and phthalate free, naturally biodegradable polyamide and is widely considered as one of the most tolerable plastics from a health point of view. Bamboo is the major ingredient but the nylon is necessary to be able to make homogeneous bristles and also to make them durable. Raw bamboo bristles at this very fine thickness would rot in a matter of days.
