Organic 50% Dark Milk Chocolate - Buckwheat

Made using cocoa beans from women cocoa farmers in Eastern Congo - who organically grow the rare Amelonado beans in their pioneering cooperative. Centuries of exploitation and decades of armed conflict have made Eastern Congo one of the poorest countries on earth and one of the harshest to be a woman. These incredible, pioneering women have overcome hardships that most of us can only imagine. And not only have they created a livelihood and future for themselves and their children, they are also actively protecting and nurturing the natural biodiversity of their homelands in Virunga National Park - Africa’s oldest nature reserve, and home to the last 800 of the Mountain Gorillas. The cooperative also enables the women to access higher education and a professional career, with some now in training to become doctors. Ocelot's partner Original Beans works directly with the cooperative, paying more than two times the fair trade price, and supporting and enabling this ground breaking project. Comes wrapped in a compostable bio film and packaged in a card sleeve produced from sustainably managed forests. The stylish artwork is designed in house and is printed using water-based inks. All packaging is produced in the UK. Certified organic by Organic Farmers & Growers (OF & G) and Organic Agriculture Europe. Approximately 10cm wide x 12.5cm high.
