Made in the UK. About the Brand The idea for British brand Playpress started when co-founder Matthew's passion for creating and making things lead him to wonder if he could design a construction toy which could create worlds and stories, but would be less harmful to the planet and more affordable than plastic construction toys. He decided to make the pieces interconnectable, so offering the same kind of play experience but at a much lower cost and made out of natural materials. Matthew put his idea to older brother Peter who, with his design talent and experience, helped to develop the concept to where it could be taken to market, and Playpress was born. After much research, the brothers came across a specialty board which is totally recyclable, which they called ‘Playboard’.
By bringing on board Mike, a good friend and a very talented artist and animator with a background in children's TV, the business was taken to a whole new level. Many weekends were spent marketing the product at Portobello Market, London, where the first sets were sold, and feedback received from parents and children.
The brothers had improved the product and expanded the range, when in 2018, father Melvin became part of the team and brought a wealth of experience and a natural talent for business strategy. He introduced the concept of working with some amazing brands and charities, and still contributes widely to the continuing success Playpress enjoys today.
