Bento, influenced by Japanese culture, means a pre-prepared portion of food neatly packed into one container to take out and about either to work or school.
The bento in this book is based on the Japanese original: rice (grains) plus a number of small side dishes packed in a bento box, but with a slight twist using more raw and whole elements than typical bento. These recipes are beautifully illustrated, quicker to make with less side dishes, and are primarily plant based - there are 8 egg recipes in the book, the rest are vegan.

In recent years we have all become more aware of the impact of the disposable culture we live in and would like to try and live a more sustainable lifestyle. Preparing homemade food & snacks for all the family & transporting them to work or school in a reusable bento style lunchbox is a great way of working towards a zero waste 'on-the-go' balanced lunch.
Born and brought up in Sweden with Japanese and Bulgarian roots, Sara Kiyo Popowa studied in Japan before settling in London.
