Tulip Wine Glass Engraved - Clear
This chunky, tulip-shaped recycled wine glass is handmade in a family run workshop in Mexico. Each piece of glass is hand blown from recycled glassware and shaped by hand and eye using techniques that date back a thousand years - and the fact that each one is a slightly different size and shape is part of their enduring charm! The glass is then engraved using a cutting wheel that etches a sunflower pattern, which is called a 'girasol'. The liveliness of the recycled glass captures the spirit and light spectrum of Mexico. We send the glasses wrapped in the Mexican newspaper they come in - a fun way of getting across the fact that they are made in Mexico!
Handmade glass can never be 'dishwasher proof' however it is usually pretty resistant to being put through a dishwasher. Dishwashers also tend, eventually, to dull the glass.
Approximate size: 16cm tall x 6cm diameter rim x 7cm diameter base.
Tell Me More
This recycled glassware is made in a family-run workshop using Pepsi bottles and other discarded glass.
It is a myth that recycling glass uses more energy than it saves. Recycling two glass bottles saves the equivalent energy of boiling 5 cups of water - which seems a small saving until you take into account that 2.4 tonnes of glass end up in landfill per year.
About the Brand
Milagros offer a colourful range of recycled Mexican tumblers and wine glasses which are hand-blown in a family-run workshop using Pepsi bottles and other discarded glass.
The glass is melted down and then mouth blown, and if used, the colour is added during this process. Each piece is shaped by hand and eye using techniques that date back thousands of years. The trace of the maker is captured as the glass solidifies – small ripples and optical distortions are an integral part of the glassware and gives it its enduring charm. Possibly not for those who favour the precise symmetry of the production line.
