All garments are certified organic by the Soil Association in accordance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), offering huge benefits for the environment, the farmers, (particularly small farmers in developing countries) and their families - and of course it is very gentle on a baby's sensitive skin.
The dyes used on all fabrics are not organic themselves, but meet the Oeko-tex 100 standard, which protects against harmful substances.
Pigeon is a family run business based in Oxford, UK. The designers who work on the textile prints, the photographers, designers and printers who work on the catalogue are also based in the UK. All of the electricity used in the office and warehouse comes from renewable sources.
Pigeon Organics currently source their certified organic cotton from a handful of organic cotton suppliers with whom they work very closely. Their manufacturers, who they know well and visit regularly, are all audited annually for good and fair working conditions as well as responsible environmental practices.
Pigeon Organics run their business from a small office and warehouse in Oxford, where they try to minimise their own environmental impact by using energy from renewable sources.
Any ‘seconds’ (eg. garments with small printing faults) and end of season stock is donated to charities working with vulnerable babies and children. They recently sent two pallets of spare stock to be used in refugee camps in Greece under the guidance of the charity Everyday Refugees.
