This beautifully made bamboo cutting board has a lovely chunky feel and is definitely stylish enough to leave out on your worksurface when not in use. One side of the board could be used for cutting and chopping, saving the other side as a serving platter.
Responsibly produced in China where there are safe working conditions and fair labour practices. Made from strips of organically grown Moso bamboo which is an extremely large variety not eaten by pandas because of its size. Finished off with a food safe certified organic oil produced from vegetable oils and waxes. Contains a small amount of water-based formaldehyde-free adhesive.
Easy to care for with a quick wipe-down or soapy rinse in warm water. If necessary the natural lustre can be rejuvenated with an all natural oil or wax. This board is a pale, 'blonde' colour so will darken if an olive or darker oil is used. Hand wash in warm soapy water. Avoid soaking.
Large size approximately 28cm wide x 38cm long x 2cm high.
Miracle plant bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, and is an endlessly renewable resource - growing new shoots from its root system after being harvested. It thrives naturally without using any pesticides or fertilisers, takes in greenhouse gasses and produces 35% more oxygen than the equivalent trees. It is lightweight, more durable than wood, heat and stain resistant and does not impart or absorb flavours.
Responsibly made in China where there are safe working conditions and fair labour practices. Producer Bambu is also B Corp certified which means the company’s business model and entire operations are evaluated to see how they impact their workers, community and environment. In short, B Corporation is to business what Fairtrade certification is to food.
Bambu are makers of handcrafted products for the home including bowls, boards & utensils. Their products come from nature and their ideas are inspired by the materials they work with - and crafted in a way that supports sustainable business practices.
Bambu was established in 2003 with a goal to reducing our use and reliance on plastic by providing people with beautiful, non-toxic, sustainable products made from nature.
Founders Jeff & Rachel were born in Portland, Oregon – a place that prides itself on local, homegrown and eco-friendly values, and when they relocated to China for work, (a place often criticised for its manufacturing processes), they took these values with them. They wanted to see if they could find a way of doing things differently – creating interest and excitement in sustainable materials, whilst adhering to ethical business practices.
Today bambu continue to focus on the same key values. They source materials locally, work with people who work with their hands, and produce safe and durable products that will last for years. The primary material they work with is bamboo – well known these days as an endlessly renewable resource that grows very fast without the need for pesticides or fertilisers – and they also work with other sustainable materials such as cork and organic cotton.
For bambu sustainability goes beyond the balance between what they take from the earth and what they return to it. It is central to how they conduct themselves as a business. They are committed to 3rd party certification and testing, promote fair labour practices and safe working conditions and ‘green’ their supply chain. The result – a number of accolades by leading associations and trade groups. They are a certified B Corp – a community of businesses that balance purpose and profit.
