KODA AMSTERDAM

The idea for Koda came when Founder and Dutch designer Diana van Dongen was inspired by the hard wearing fabrics of local furniture manufacturer De Ploeg, and started collecting and analysing its cutting waste. In a week, more than 50 pieces of at least one meter square were counted!

The story behind Koda Amsterdam

INSPIRED BY QUALITY FABRICS

There were waste cuts of curtain fabric, woven stripes, printed designs, pure wool upholstery fabrics and wool felt. The box of waste was a treasure trove of information on what had been cut, but also an amazing treasure trove of inspiration and material to work with! So in 2013 after working on a re-use project with De Ploeg, Diana was ready to launch Koda.

UPCYCLED BEAUTY

Every once in a while, Diana pops in to De Ploeg to collect the cutting waste and residual fabrics. Diana works with many Dutch designers, whose inspirations differ, but each shares a passion for fabric, turning waste into beauty. Each Koda product is carefully made in Dutch ateliers, all sheltered workshops, where people are coached to develop their talents.
