About Earth Lust
Reusable bottles are certainly a great way of reducing waste (see our 'Ethics' tab for more information) but they are not always something you would be proud to carry around.
However these Earth Lust bottles are honestly the most beautiful bottles we have ever seen! We don't want to go on about it but here are a few reasons why...
The designs on the EarthLust bottles really set them apart. Many of the designs are limited edition, with new 'art' added to the range regularly. It is the intensity of the colours and detail in the illustrations that really make them stand out - unfortunately it is difficult to get this across in a picture but please take our word for it!
EarthLust's bottles are a customised shape - much slimmer than the 'stock' bottles on the market giving them a completely different feel. The neck is also nice and wide to drink from - making it easier to drink from than a small plastic bottle.
The bottles are hand made from high quality food grade stainless steel. Stainless steel is naturally safe unlined unlike aluminium bottles which need a lining of some sort - enamel or epoxy resin (which may contain BPA). EarthLust also use non-toxic paints and have high quality carabineers and BPA-free safe polypropylene #5 caps. Importantly the screw top has a rubber seal which genuinely makes it leak proof - a very important factor!
Optional sports top available.
SUSTAINABLE - As awareness of the health benefits of staying hydrated have grown, so has the market for bottled water. Unfortunately a lot of the water drunk is bottled in disposable plastic bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
In recent years, the consumption of disposable PET water bottles has soared to about 200 billion per year worldwide. Of the estimated 13 billion plastic bottles sold in the UK last year, less than 25% were recycled. The rest end up in landfills, where they may take up to 1000 years to decompose, or as litter in waterways and other natural areas. Not only does the low recycling rate create litter and contribute to overflowing landfills, it also contributes to the depletion of the world’s oil resources. PET is a petroleum product . There's enough oil used in the production process of water bottles in the UK to keep over 15,000 cars on the road for a year.
Buying a resusable (EarthLust!) water bottle is therefore a great way of slowing the sales of bottled water and encouraging us to use the tap water that is free and readily available to us.
FAIRTRADE - EarthLust bottles are made in China because to date no one has been able to produce stainless steel bottles in the United States (where the brand is based). EarthLust monitor their factory carefully to make sure that they meet their very high standards for employment and environmental impact. Someone is on site during their production cycle, and employment records are audited. Their factory utilizes modern safety standards and is ISO9001 certified. Dumping is prohibited and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are limited.
EarthLust have also been independently audited for their ethical practices, and have been granted the Green America Seal of Approval. www.greenamericatoday.org
