Kids Konserve have put together a great new video showing their wide range of Kids Konserve and U-Konseve products in use in a busy family kitchen. It’s got some great ideas and is also good fun. Worth a watch…http://vimeo.com/69782472
No one in the UK could have escaped all the stories about horse meat being discovered in a range of processed foods, and there is no question that it has made us all think about what we, and our children, eat. One of the issues many parents have been most worried about is what their children are being fed at school. Unfortunately it seems that school meal providers have been under the same financial pressure as many other sectors and so it is difficult to be sure that all of the food our children are fed at school is of the standard we would ideally like it to be.
We decided to start giving our children packed lunches last January when we first started selling the Kids Konserve range of waste free lunch packing. For us the issue of packed lunches was always that they were made up of a lot of prepackaged, convenience foods – and generated a lot of waste. The Kids Konserve range allowed us to make food at home and send it into school conveniently packaged but generating no waste – and that is what we have done for over a year now.
The children have a mix of sandwiches (wrapped in a food kozy), soup or heated up pasta/risotto (both in an insulated food jar), or a pasta salad (in a large stainless steel container), followed by a fruit salad (in a medium stainless steel container) and a homemade cake or flapjack (in a container or food kozy). We also include a bamboo spork and a cotton napkin – and all of this fits very nicely in their insulated lunch sack and is kept cool with a sweat free ice pak (which doesn’t make everything wet!).
When they get home most of the kit goes straight in the dishwasher, the kozy is just rinsed under the tap (and the food jar needs a quick hand wash). So not only do we know exactly what our children are eating, there is also no packaging to go in the bin – and no waste (except the odd bit of fruit salad or a half eaten sandwich – they are children after all!).
We’ve had a lot of orders for Kids Konserve products this week so we imagine many parents are feeling like it is the right time to make the change – and we thought it would be useful to share our experience using these great products!
As always we’re more than happy to answer any questions you have about any of our products – just use the contact form on the website.

We’ve had rather a busy January – what with trade fairs to visit and exhibit at and the snow causing a few complications. So our January Sale has become more of a February Sale! We hope you are still pleased to be able to pick up a few ethical bargains – it’s the perfect time to stock up your present drawer, or treat yourself without guilt! Visit our Sale Shop here.
We’ve just updated our home page to show off some of the lovely toys we stock here at Green Tulip. No huge pieces of overpackaged plastic for us! All our toys are sold with minimal packaging and are either made from sustainable materials or are made by fair trade producer groups around the world.
One of our newest ranges is Carddies – little hand-drawn card people who live in a box! We think these are great – hours of fun for children aged 3+ (and colouring mad adults too!) and the handy packaging means they are perfect to take out and about. You can see the whole range here…
As you may know (and have experienced) Royal Mail raised their postage prices in April this year, and since that time we have been reviewing our postage costs to see the effect these price rises have had. Unfortunately our postage charges have gone up significantly therefore we have no alternative but to raise our Standard Delivery charge.
Our Standard Delivery charge is now £2.75 which we’re sure you will agree still offers great value. All parcels are sent by 1st class post (or courier if the parcel is very heavy). We’ve also decided to offer free delivery over £30 (rather than £50) and with lots of lovely new ethical products arriving on the site all the time we hope you will find that it is actually very easy to get your order to this level!
We still offer a signed for Courier delivery service (now £4.50) and a Next Day delivery service (£6.95) so hope there is a delivery option to meet your requirements.
The Green Tulip team work hard to dispatch orders very quickly and try to send all orders within 24 hours of receipt so you can be assured of prompt delivery – whichever delivery method you choose!
Bambu is one of our favourite and most popular brands and they are one of a handful of companies to receive the Green America Gold Seal of Approval.
They recently shared their story on the Green America website. We thought you would find it interesting to read…
New onto the website – some new additions to the clever ‘Who’s Glass’ range. They turn old bottles into stylish new glasses (with a little glass blowing expertise thrown in). Products include glasses made from wine bottles, Grolsch bottles and J20 bottles as well as these Smirnoff Ice bottles.
Perfect for toasting the success of Team GB
As well as Twitter we’ve also been getting to grips with Pinterest – a wonderful way of pulling together images of lots of inspirational things.
We’ve got boards for eco ideas, inspirational homes, products that have caught our eye, creative cooking – and things that make us smile!
You can take a look at our boards here.
Green Tulip is now on Twitter! You can follow Green Tulip founder Charity as she shares pictures of new products arriving at the shop and on the website. She’ll also be tweeting about the challenges of juggling work with two children, the joys of walking her beagle in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside – and other random bits and pieces!
