We were really pleased when we discovered this new range of recycled plastic toys – Green Toys – hard wearing enough for the toughest of customers! The range includes a dump truck, stacking cups, car and cool bath tug boat.
Green Toys use recycled plastic milk cartons as the main ingredient in all their products. When plastic milk cartons are collected from around the USA by recycling companies, they are sorted from all the other types of plastic and reprocessed into a super clean, fresh plastic called high-density polyethylene (or HDPE). This material is considered one of the safest, cleanest plastics around and is fully recyclable.
On average, for every pound in weight of recycled milk cartons, Green Toys saves energy equal to 3,000 AAA batteries or enough to power a TV set for 3 whole weeks, or to keep a laptop computer running for a month! We believe this is a huge step forward in the manufacture of children’s toys – and one day hope to see toys like this that are made in the UK too.

We’ve just updated our home page to show off some of the lovely toys we stock here at Green Tulip. No huge pieces of overpackaged plastic for us! All our toys are sold with minimal packaging and are either made from sustainable materials or are made by fair trade producer groups around the world.
One of our newest ranges is Carddies – little hand-drawn card people who live in a box! We think these are great – hours of fun for children aged 3+ (and colouring mad adults too!) and the handy packaging means they are perfect to take out and about. You can see the whole range here…
Just in – the very cute Butterfly Garden range of organic cotton baby clothes from Piccalilly. And we haven’t forgotten the boys – they’ve got little aeroplanes! Perfect new baby gifts.
Just arrived – this Bambu Baby Feeding Starter Set is made up of a pair of Baby Feeding Spoons and a Baby Bowl in a smart cotton bag, An unusual and useful new baby gift – and very cute!
We’ve been stocking the lovely Organics for Kids range in our shop ever since we opened 5 years ago and it is one of our best selling ranges. Our customers love the quality of the organic cotton, the mix of classic design with funky colours and also the fact that they are made in the UK.
We’ve finally added some of the range to the website including these lovely striped rompers. More designs coming soon.
With our children (and many of our friends’ children) now at school it’s a while since we’ve been to a Christening but I still remember the stressful challenge of buying a Christening present. You want something that will last, that they will appreciate as they get older, but that will appeal to them as a child too (and also of course that the parents will like). You also want something that won’t spend its life in a drawer!
I’m not sure we ever got it right – until I was asked to be god-mother to my sister’s little boy, Jack. The pressure was on!
At the same time I was working with my friend (and artist) Liney Kean on a range of children’s party invitations and thank you cards. One of the designs she was doing was based on bunnies, and it suddenly struck me that my sister is obsessed with rabbits (she still keeps a pet rabbit – Jasper!). So I asked Liney if she could draw me a picture to mark Jack’s christening, with pictures of rabbits on. And she did!
My sister loved it (thankfully) and has since ordered two pictures from Liney for her friends’ babies – Charlie and Francesca. And so our Green Tulip personalised pictures range was born!
We’ve been selling them in our shop for a year now and have had a great reaction – you can see a few of the pictures she has done on the listing of themes available. So we felt it was time to add them to the website – and here they are…!
One of the things I think sets them apart from other personalised pictures available is that Liney genuinely creates each one from scratch – they are not done from a template. She works the animals and characters around the letters in the name and will add cute touches that will definitely appeal to the children such as a little bunny asleep on the bottom of an E and fairies making a daisy chain!
We’ve also developed a range of name only pictures – ideal as gifts for older children.
To make sure the pictures are as ‘eco friendly’ as possible Liney makes the frames herself out of reclaimed pine floorboards – and of course they are the sort of gift that will last a lifetime – how much more eco-friendly than that can you get!
